Snow…what??…Yep, we are in for some snow. Hard to believe that not long ago we had temps around 70 degrees! Even our kiddos are not excited about the snow. But never-the-less, we dug out their heavy coats and hats and they headed off for school. I am guessing they won’t be having recess. The flags are flying straight out today…sooo windy and cold!!
I thought I would share a few more treasures that my Mom and Dad brought to me last weekend. I cannot tell you how happy I am to have these wonderful mementos. I will definitely display them, take good care of them and pass them down to our children. I am also SO glad that these items are in my possession and not sitting on some shelf in a Goodwill or antique store. I just couldn’t bear the thought of it!
This is a bowl that belonged to my Grandmother, my Mom’s Mother. I just LOVE the color and design of it.
It looks beautiful with the Ball jars my Mom also brought to me. You will notice that both of these things are in my blog header photo. New “old” favorites of mine!
My Mom says she remembers her Mother using this bowl all the time when she was little. Lots of goodies mixed up in it I bet.
Here is another treasure Mom and Dad brought with them. A McCoy planter. It is in perfect condition. Great green color!
Love the design on this too.
They also brought my school desk! This was in my bedroom when I was little. I am so happy to have it. Now my kids can use it!
Love the ink well and pencil groove.
I think the wear on the top gives it so much character.
Thank you Mom and Dad for sharing these special treasures with me. They are in good hands and will be shared and enjoyed for many more generations.
I need a hutch to hold everything! I want to display some of these things together in one place. My Mom has a hutch for me too that she says I can refinish any way I want. Now…we just have to get it to our house!

Great family treasures Sarah!!! They are always the best!
ReplyDeleteI was just going to say that the planter looked like a McCoy. I grew up around auctions and my mom and grandma are big antique gals. :) The bowl is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI love all you things your parents brought you. I love blue jars. I found some at a yard sale last year. I got a dozen of them for a dollar and fifty cents. I got a few of the old things my Granma had. I was 17 when she died, and all her stuff was sold in a yard sale. If I had it to do over I would have taken it. Oh well. I love the salt dough things you made too.
ReplyDeleteGreat treasures Sarah. Enjoy them as they are meant to be enjoyed. don't you wish that bowl could talk?

Sarah, you are so lucky to have parents who keep these items for you. My mom gets rid of everything and now looking back we had some neat stuff when I was young but now is long gone. What a beautiful blue bowl, love the colour and it looks awesome with the Ball Jars. Can't wait to see the hutch!!!

ReplyDeleteSarah, what great parents you have to bring you such treasures. Everything you get from them is so priceless and I'm sure your children will feel that way also about those family heirlooms. The bowl is just perfect. Growing up our house was so small my mom just got rid of things, too bad I would have loved some of my childhood momentos. Can't wait to see the hutch. Hugs Kathy

Wonderful family treasures! Love your old desk!! The best thing you can do is document where your family heirlooms come from. Here on your blog is a good start. I take pictures just of the pieces and state where they came from, the years it was used (if I know) and what it was used for. At the time we receive them, we think we will never forget. I was looking back through some pictures that I took and I had forgotten all that I received from my FIL's mother many years ago. I'm so glad I knew to do that back then. I also have a couple of quilts that I never thought I would forget exactly where they came from, but it's been almost 20 years now and I can't remember. =[ One of these days, I will get all the pictures in an album just for reference.
