A Sweet Trip Down Memory Lane

Happy Friday my friends! The kids and I went to an olde time candy shoppe today! SO fun! All the old candies and drinks I remember from my past. The music was even from "back in the day"! Maybe you will see some of your favorites!

Enjoy these sugar-filled photos!

This is my ALL TIME favorite candy. I call it "swimming pool taffy". Whenever we would go to the pool when I was a kid they would blow the break whistle and that meant "everybody out of the pool". The whistle also meant… everybody head to the snack shack! This is what I would buy every time!

Another photo of my favorite taffy!

This was just one small section of a HUGE wall of salt water taffy!

Remember these little wax juice filled bottles?...Exactly what was that juice in there anyway!? Oh well, it was yummy and I always drank it and then chewed on the wax!

I have always had a love-hate relationship with Sweet tart and yet so sweet at the same time! Haha!

Sweet Tarts

Just a "little" bit of sugar in those Sugar Babies! *wink*

Who doesn’t remember Bazooka!?

Have a Coke and a Smile! :)

Coca Cola

Root Beer! Yum-O!

Root Beer

Just a sampling of a big wall of soda!

The atmosphere took me right back in time! Sammy Davis Jr. was singing “Who can take a sunrise, sprinkle it with dew
Cover it with chocolate and a miracle or two
The Candy Man, oh the Candy Man can
The Candy Man can 'cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good”! You gotta love it!

Whenever you get a chance, take your kids back in time with you. The look on their faces is priceless!  I even got myself something! Cinnamon Freshen Up Gum! Do you remember it? “The gum that goes squirt”!

Everyone have a wonderful weekend!!

Until next time, take care.

  1. Sarah, you find the funnest places! Now where is that at? Boy did that candy bring back memories! Do you remember candy cigarrettes? Oh my!

  2. Most of these I'm not familiar with of course being from UK - the sweets and chocolate bars I remember from childhood are very different. I am familiar with saltwater taffy though, I love it and a big box always comes home with me when I visit NE, usually I buy it from the shop up in York, Maine where you can watch it being made.

  3. Oh I bet this was such a fun trip for your kids!!! I remember so much of this candy from my own childhood. Oh my goodness there's nothing like a Coke in a bottle!!! Thanks for the trip down candy lane! Hope you have a great weekend.

  4. Yum! What a "sweet" post ;) I remember all of those delicious candies and my favorite has always been Sweet Tarts, especially the giant chewy ones! Remember wax lips and Razzles? Thanks for the wonderful memories!

  5. oh what a fun place..and LOL....I do remember the lil wax filled bottles and yes! I was a wax chewer too...LOLOLOL....oh yes! candy fun were they to pretend to smoke?

  6. Oh my on the old memories! I love the drinks that were in the bottles and especially the cokes in the bottle....Awww..the old days were good....Love your blog!

  7. Oh wow Sarah..different lollies {candy} but same
Thankfully, we can still get Coke in glass bottles..only certain shops sell them, but it seems to taste better from glass doesn't it>??
    luv Annie.xx

  8. Thanks for the memories! So many memories when I see all the goodies from my childhood. Not included in your pics but always had to have the "colored dots" on the paper too! Loved seeing it all and how much fun it must have been to show your kiddos the "good" stuff from back in the day!
and I agree Coke tastes better in a glass bottle!

  9. Oh Sarah..I so remember..And I never will forget :) I loved going to Kentucky to stay with my Great grandma Susie and I would goto Shakies and buy the old pop in a bottle, and the candy was so awesome..I love doing that stuff with my kids..My mom had a primitive store for sometime and she had penny candy in the old jars..Alot of the candy she lost money on but she still wanted to have that concept for kids..and it was a huge hit.>Thanks for taking me back to Shakies..How Fun :)
    ~♥~Prim Blessings..

  10. OMG! That song by Sammy Davis brings back so many memories. And the candy store candy weeeee! My sister and brother and cousins would walk to the corner store and buy "penny candy". Baseball cards with the gum, cracker jacks, Swedish fish, etc. Thanks for the walk down memory lane:)
