A Sweet Trip Down Memory Lane

Happy Friday my friends! The kids and I went to an olde time candy shoppe today! SO fun! All the old candies and drinks I remember from my past. The music was even from "back in the day"! Maybe you will see some of your favorites!

Enjoy these sugar-filled photos!

This is my ALL TIME favorite candy. I call it "swimming pool taffy". Whenever we would go to the pool when I was a kid they would blow the break whistle and that meant "everybody out of the pool". The whistle also meant… everybody head to the snack shack! This is what I would buy every time!

Another photo of my favorite taffy!

This was just one small section of a HUGE wall of salt water taffy!

Remember these little wax juice filled bottles?...Exactly what was that juice in there anyway!? Oh well, it was yummy and I always drank it and then chewed on the wax!

Candy

I have always had a love-hate relationship with Sweet Tarts...so tart and yet so sweet at the same time! Haha!

Just a "little" bit of sugar in those Sugar Babies! *wink*

Who doesn’t remember Bazooka!?

The atmosphere took me right back in time! Sammy Davis Jr. was singing “Who can take a sunrise, sprinkle it with dew
Cover it with chocolate and a miracle or two
The Candy Man, oh the Candy Man can
The Candy Man can 'cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good”! You gotta love it!

Whenever you get a chance, take your kids back in time with you. The look on their faces is priceless!  I even got myself something! Cinnamon Freshen Up Gum! Do you remember it? “The gum that goes squirt”!

Everyone have a wonderful weekend!!

Until next time, take care.

Wildflower Photos and Salt Dough Flowers

Hello everyone! Long time no see! I hope you are all doing well. Summer is a busy one with baseball games and other activities. Trying to stay cool during those baseball games is quite the challenge. It has been SO hot here lately.

At one of our son’s baseball games there is a wildflower preserve right next to the fields. So I grabbed my camera and started snapping away. I couldn’t believe the colors! All of the flowers were drifting in the breeze.

Well, this post was rather random wasn’t it? Filled with some fun photos I have taken recently. I hope you enjoyed a little of this and a little of that!

I Made Salt Dough Bowl Fillers!

Greetings everyone! What a beautiful day and evening! I hope you all had a wonderful day! Mine was hectic, but hectic can be good….can’t it?? I was on the run most of the day. It feels good to sit down on my laptop and blog about an adorable craft project my daughter and I worked on over the weekend!
If you have not checked out Colleen’s blog yet you should do so! It is full of inspiration and ideas. She puts her whole heart into everything she does and it shows! Click HERE to visit And Baby Makes Five.
I made these salt dough bowl fillers for the Winter/Christmas season last year. And thought some Spring and Summer  bowl fillers would add just the right touch around the house. Here is how they all turned out. Be warned…lots of photos~

The lantern is from Yankee Candle, I got it for $7.00 today! I love it! It says “Yankee Candle Co. Est. 1969”. A maple pancakes tea light is what’s inside. Mmmmm!
Oh and one more photo. I picked up some African Violets at the grocery store. $1.99 a piece. I couldn’t resist. But I have heard they can be temperamental plants. So I hope I can keep them alive. They are the most beautiful magenta color. My Mom has lots of African Violets, she has good luck with them….”Hello Mom…HELP.”!!  Haha!

I hope you enjoyed all of my crafty photos! What a fun project! My daughter and I had a blast creating! Everyone, give these a try. You will love them!
Until next time, take care.

A Couple of Makeovers & A Yummy Scent

Happy Thursday everyone! Hope you are all having a wonderful day. The sun is shining and it is our LAST DAY OF SCHOOL! My kids are ready, I’m just not sure I am! This Summer will be crazy with baseball games and other activities. Our kids usually eat us out of house and home and who doesn’t hear the words “I’m bored” over and over again during Summer break! My parents always told me to “go clean your room” when I said I was bored. I think I might find myself using that one!
But honestly, I still remember what that LAST DAY felt like. You had no backpack to bring to school that day, you watched a movie, had an extra long recess and you usually got out early! Ahhhh…back in the day! I think there might be an ice cream trip on the agenda to celebrate!
I thought I would share a couple of makeovers that I got done over the long holiday weekend. The first one I have wanted to get done forever. I just hadn’t found the right shelf. Then last week at the Salvation Army, there it was for $2.99! Couldn’t beat the price and it was EXACTLY what I was looking for.
Here it is before, it just had a dark brown stain on it~

Here it is after. Each one of our children have a sterling silver cup from my parents from when they were born. And each of them have a porcelain baby bootie from the hospital. They fit in here perfectly!

I painted it black, sanded, distressed and stained it and also added beadboard (which I also sanded, distressed and stained) to the back of it.  It turned out just the way I envisioned it!
My next makeover I don’t have a before picture. It was just a plain pine shelf that I got at Goodwill for $4.99. I went ahead and gave it a black basecoat at the same time I did the first shelf and then realized I hadn’t taken a photo! Ooops!
Here is is all done~

The little sheep I got at Goodwill for $3.00! Love them! The shelf I base coated black then actually added a coat of a light tan, it wasn’t the color I was going for so I added a coat of a darker tan, sanded and distressed it and when I added the dark walnut stain it took on a wonderful mustard/antique gold color! I added beadboard to this shelf too, I think it adds so much!
It felt so good to get out and get my hands dirty again! I love working with paint, stain, brushes and sandpaper! I have so many more projects waiting in the wings! Next on my list is a wooden letter holder that I am going to makeover and use in our office! I love it when I find things we need! So stay tuned for that!
Really quick I wanted to share with you one of my newest discoveries! I am sure some of you are already fans of Village Candles but I just discovered them thanks to Colleen! Lemon Pound Cake was my first purchase, what a perfect Summertime scent! It is a great scent for anytime really. We have been enjoying it daily, it fills the whole house with the most delicious aroma! Yum!
Click on the picture to visit their website! Here it is burning in my kitchen! Can you smell it??!

Here it is inside of a tin candle cup I got at the Salvation Army for 99 cents! It fits perfectly!

A Few Taste Bud Teasers!

Hello everyone! I hope you are having a wonderful weekend so far! I thought I would take a quick minute to post some taste bud teasers! My husband made bbq ribs on the grill last night! And Mmmmm Mmmmm! They were delicious…..messy but delicious! We completed the meal with two classic summer side dishes. Herb parmesan potatoes and corn on the cob!

Here are the stars of the meal~

One of our family favorites~

Yum, bright yellow, sweet corn on the cob~

Corn On The Cob

Here is the whole meal. We realized that we didn’t have anything green on our plates. Ooops! To be honest, nobody missed it. :)

Rib Meal

And this is the aftermath! Haha! Let’s just say, none of us left the table hungry. But we did all use a lot of handy wipes!

Aftermath

Here was brunch this morning! Can you believe we actually ate again!??

Breakfast

Honest, we are doing more than just eating this weekend! Today we are going to plant some flowers. I am hoping to get a couple of makeovers done. A little yoga, maybe some of us will take an afternoon nap and my hubby will be watching the Cubs. The best part is, there are no schedules and nowhere we have to be.

I am feeling very thankful for all of the blessings in our lives. Truly thankful for family, friends, the food we eat at each meal and thankful for everyone who has served and is currently serving our country.

Wherever you are, whatever you are doing I hope you are having a great day!  Enjoy this long weekend with the ones you love!

Until next time, take care.
